We love working with kids! The following will provide you with what to expect when you and your child come to us for your dental needs.

The Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends that every child has their first dental visit 6 months after their first tooth erupts or at their first birthday. This appointment is to assess your child’s dental development and to counsel parents on proper nutrition and care of your child’s teeth.

Our family-oriented practice is devoted to positive early dental experiences for our young patients. To have a happy dental visit, avoiding fear and crankiness, we suggest to you (Mom and Dad) the following:

  1. Select an appointment time when your child is alert, not tired or during a nap time.
  2. Make sure your child is well fed; a hungry child is a cranky child.
  3. Explain that Dr. Carroll and her staff are friends who will help keep your child’s teeth healthy.
  4. Keep a positive, excited attitude towards dentistry because children will pick up on your fear and anxiety.
  5. Answer your child’s questions positively, avoiding scary words (NO USE of shot, drill, x-ray, hurt, pain, etc.).
  6. Your child should feel safe in our office. Never tell your child fillings are “punishment” for getting cavities, we are only here to help your child.
  7. Review the information below with your child, to alleviate their and your fear.
  8. Parents may remain in the room for support; however Dr Carroll and staff only are to give your child instructions.

Below is a list of information to review with your child.
